On the 26th of March we were invited to Bratislava to the Representation of the European Commission in Slovakia along with other participants and winners of the annual translating competition Juvenes Translatores.
The programme included, but was not limited to, a short discussion with the winner of the official round of the competition and a panel of translators who gave us an idea of the profession. We also got introduced to an interpreter's booth and had a go at the so-called "shadowing", which is a technique in which you say, out loud, exactly what you hear being spoken to you. Although not even close to interpreting, it is harder than it sounds.
All in all, it was a pleasant experience and I encourage everyone to take part.
